Is this image for Lanterns from an actual scene in the show?

After a year of theory bait off of this one image we were given in February of 2025 I now believe that there is no shot of these two Lanterns walking down the street like this in the final cut of the show.

A recent interview with Tom King has me thinking this was just a promo photo.

Is this image for Lanterns from an actual scene in the show?

While listening to the Uncensored Nerds podcast on Spotify that featured Tom King a couple bits of news made the rounds. The first was a quote from Tom King that basically said that he, Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof put this show and its story together with the idea of this being a premium Sunday night HBO show that HBO is often known for.

A day two after this podcast was out I finally had time to sit down and listen to it and that is where I shared to socials that Tom King also said that at one point he walked up to Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre and they had their rings on. While this doesn’t seem noteworthy it might be because of lot of the internet has been of the belief that in this season, Hal Jordan and John Stewart would be sharing a ring the entire season. For Tom King to see them both wearing rings at the same time it should ease concerns folks have had around this a smidge.

And this leads me to the next thing that perked my ears from this podcast. At one point when discussing this image above Tom King has this to say:

We were not too far from Bakersfield when we took that shot. I was there. I was behind the cameraman. I’m looking at him. It was funny. We were shooting and had a different sort of plan of where to take it. And the cameraman’s like, “what if we did it in the middle of the street?” And like, we don’t have the permits to shut down the street.

And they’re like, we’re just going to go when there’s no cars. And so we’re like, we’re like just calling over to Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre. And we just, they walked in the middle of the street and they just like, “oh, we get hit by a car, hope we had insurance for that.”

And they were just walking. I was right behind them. And we were like, check this, but take it, take it there!

So why the question on if this is from an actual scene they filmed? The evidence that this is from something they were filming that supports this being in the show would be that this does look like the road they were driving on in the teaser where Hal jumped out of the car after placing the ring on the dash. Which we all believe that means John puts the ring on to save himself and a lot of us theorized he doesn’t save the car and this is why they are walking. In this image Hal has the ring back on his hand so it would appear after flying over to Hal, John hands him back the ring. All of this does check out.

On the other side of that though, if this is after Hal jumps out of the car he is way too clean looking for tumbling out of the vehicle at a high speed. The jacket isn’t torn up and he has no visible damage to his hands or face. I did also slow down the footage from the teaser to see if the roads matched up and they do not.

The other part that sort of seals the deal for me in regards to this not being connected to the actual show, meaning this isn’t from a scene they were filming, is the part where he mentioned they did not have permits to shut down the road. When they film car scenes like this for shows and movies they absolutely have the permits to shut down traffic passing through to keep everybody safe.

To me that is the big one that says this isn’t part of the show. Am I crazy? Is this a conspiracy? Did you think this was always just a pretty marketing shot with no substance? Let me know what you think on the YouTube, Spotify or Apple Podcast comment sections!
